Implicit Differentiation, Inverse Functions, and Hyperbolic Functions

You already know how to differentiate functions where is given directly in terms of , like . But what if and are tangled together in an equation, like , and you can't easily solve for ? This chapter teaches you a trick called implicit differentiation to handle that. Then we'll use that trick to find derivatives of inverse trig functions, logarithms, exponentials, and a strange family of functions called hyperbolic functions.
