Imagine you’ve built a tiny brain out of numbers—a neural network—but it starts out knowing nothing. How do you teach it to recognise handwritten digits, predict house prices, or sort emails? In this chapter we follow the training journey from a network’s first clumsy guess to a polished predictor, and we also learn how to open the black box and understand what it actually learned.
